Hi
I am interested in changing my Seat Mii electric, which I have had for more than four years, for one of the new smaller EVs. I am considering the Hyundai Inster, VW ID 2 and the Renault 5 EV. The ID2 is going to be a bit late I think. The Inster is very well equipped and has a versatile layout but is a bit on the ugly side. However I seem to have been smitten by the blue R5! It is really neat and 'looks right'. The R5 will arrive relatively soon. I will look at reviews and have a test drive when it arrives. Hopefully it will be as good as the info out there suggests.
I logged into the French Renault site to see if the new R5 is available to order in France. The long range version can be configured. In doing so a lot of info is displayed. It also displays pictures of the R5 in all the colours inside and out.
The webpage I used is renault.fr
One thing I was disappointed in was the price of the car - without the French government allowance of 4000 euros, the top model works out at 35490 euros!

Hi. I've driven a BMW i3 as my only car for 10 years, and the R5 looks like a great replacement. I hope the brake regen is good, as I couldn't own a car now that didn't have decent one-pedal driving. I like the fact that the R5 is slightly smaller than my i3, as I live in central Bristol, with cars double-parked on narrow roads. Every other interesting EV I've looked at so far is big!
Has anyone bothered buying the R5 pass? I've heard that if you change the configuration at all you lose your place, so I'm not sure it's worth it.
Hi DKH
I don’t fancy paying £150, which you don’t get back, before seeing cars in the flesh and more importantly, having an extended test drive.
Mind you I really like the look of it!
I will take my time and be sure I get the right spec/colour so the R5 pass is not for me.
I’m hoping we’re approaching the start of deliveries and the chance to finally test drive an R5. I’ve driven electric for a while (original Nissan Leaf ->MG ZS EV) and will be in the market for a new vehicle in the summer.
So, am hoping that people’s experiences are positive, as provided nothing bad jumps out during a test drive I suspect it will be my next car.
Looking forward to hearing from those lucky enough to have one on order!
I have been following the reviews on the new R5 for a while now, but didn't go for the R5 Pass as wanted to see the car in the metal and test drive it before buying.
Both objectives achieved this week and a white Roland Garros has been ordered!
This will join the family Jaguar I-Pace and my pride and joy - a Porsche 911 - to complete the stable and cover all the bases!
Hi all, well we had a test drive in an R5 and was very impressed. We have a Mini cooperS which is a great car but it has a few faults. We new it was a city car but the 100 mile range isn’t enough, the lack of back doors and only being 4 seats. It’s very quick but the way it delivers it is very harsh, it’s either pushing you in the seat or the regen is throwing you forward, I don’t mind it in a proper sports car and you get a load of torque steer.
The R5 was opposite to all the above and was very nice drive but not without a few issues for me it needs a bit more power and I have no idea what they were thinking of with the gear selector? I had an i3s some years ago and the selector was in the same place but it was a nice piece strong alloy not a plastic lollipop stick.
I had an original Renault 5 Turbo many years ago and loved it, the new R5 made me smile and is a great bit of kit.
Well today we made a decision right or wrong only time will tell. The Alpine A290, the same car really is going to be produced in very low numbers. It should be around for a test drive by the end of April and be shipped by the end of July. We decided to bite the bullet and place the order for an A290GTS, the big question is, is it worth 10k more?
If we don’t think its worth it or it’s nor the same car but with more power then it’s going to be far easier to sell and get a R5 instead.
Enjoy your new cars everyone.
